The Braves Out-Mets'd the Mets in a De Facto Playoff Game and Have Now Scratched Chris Sale for Game 2 of the Doubleheader
This was the most perfect penultimate game for the 2024 Atlanta Braves. Finally put some offense together via an insane comeback — after blowing a 3-0 lead to begin with — only to choke one more time in the ninth inning and let the fucking New York Mets beat you for a spot in the Postseason. Couldn't have scripted it any better.
The Braves are a proibitive favorite in the second game of today's doubleheader, but it almost doesn't even matter what happens now. They're either going to lose to the Mets in the most embarrassing fashion of all-time or back into the Postseason having already used Chris Sale and have no pitching for a series starting in San Diego 24 hours after this game ends.
EDIT: Sale is apparently not pitching and has presumably been secretly hurt the whole time Atlanta was saying it was saving him for an elimination game. You can't make this stuff up.
I would say it's been a fun season, but it most certainly has not. Congrats to the Mets fans on their 11th Postseason berth in franchise history.
